‘Hoe kijkt coördinator Salomon Halder terug op het project?’

De partner vertelt... van 7 oktober 2019 door Salomon Halder

Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

Context and summary

Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
Yes. Livelihoods of the members of the Association and underlying self-help groups and their relatives improved.

Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.

Association building construction started end of June 2019. Before WS team arrive base level construction and toilets completed. WS team with 30 members arrived in project side on 23rd July and actively participated in construction with association members. It was a good experience working together with Dutch and Bangladeshi, disabled non disabled people. Team completed upto the roof of Nilphamari Association building and Joldhaka close to the roof. WS team left Nilphamari on 7th August.

How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

Construction

Buildings worked on
Mason assigned by TLM and World Servant. A purchase committee arranged needed materials accordingly. WS team participated all type of tasks on construction though the weather was hot some days heavy rain.

Tasks to be done

WS team participated in all tasks.

Programs

Children program
Children in the community and inside compound participated and enjoyed through different programs.

Cultural and touristic outings
One evening we had a joint cultural program in the training center where many staffs in TLM and WS team performed. Family members of the compound enjoyed this program. One day WS team visited Dalia (a river with a barrage) 70 KM away.

Life Skills program and Football for Water

Some individual participants of WS team participated life skill program. Some participants visited education institutes (seven). One day we arranged a football match between WS and TLM where local community came to encourage football players.

Cooperation and involvement

Leadership team World Servants
We see a good leadership role in the team. They maintained team discipline and very supportive.

Local leaders / key persons
Association leaders and community leaders (UP Chairman) gave their cooperation to the team to arrange food, participate in construction and other activities.

Community
Local community welcomed well WS team in their community and they cooperate to the team.

Beneficiaries
Self-Help Group/ Association members involved actively in construction and food preparation with WS team. Always they worked together with WS members. They help disabled members to participate.

(Local) authorities
Local UP Chairman visited project site, local authority permitted to visit WS team to Nilphamari and supported for security.

Facilitation of the team

Accommodation

30 members were staying in TLM training center, rooms were non AC which was difficult for the members in a hot season.

Food
Team had lunch in the construction site and it was typical bangla food. Training center provided breakfast and dinner.

Transportation

It was difficult for a big team to travel from Dhaka to Nilphamari by train when they had many luggage. Some luggage needed to send by courier services.

Safety

We tried our best for their safety and security. It was an important issue for us. We always updated local administration about the situation. Police station provided their support when required.

Lessons learned
Travel Arrangement for 30 members with huge luggage was difficult. Involvement of TLMIB staff for supporting team was more than our expectation. Other program rather than construction required time & needed many staffs involvement.
