‘Hoe kijkt coördinator M.J. Yiwombe terug op het project?’

De partner vertelt... van 11 oktober 2019 door Yiwombe

Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

Context and summary

Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
The original plan was to construct 2 teachers houses and a double toilet with one girls changing room (GCR). The only change is that the toilets were shifted to be allocated for the teachers houses instead of to the school but the rest has not been changed.

Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.

The project was succesfully implemented as all the structures reached the roofing stage. Community participation was equally good and even the interaction with the teams was perfect.

How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

Construction

Buildings worked on
The two teachers houses, GCR and toilets were constructed within the same period and everything went on well.

Tasks to be done

at the time the group was leaving roofing was done and the community had to do finishing works such as plastering, flooring, pointing, drains, glass fixing and fixing of doors.

Programs

Children program
Childrens work took place from 10.00 am to12.00 noon and attendance was good. Children enjoyed the activities.

Cultural and touristic outings
The team visited community members, and worked in the gardens. They also went in groups to various families

Life Skills program and Football for Water

Life skills programme was done for 3 days however boys attendance was not consistent. football for water also took place for three days. The trainings went on very well and were exciting. The message was delivered by the health officers and was clear.

Cooperation and involvement

Leadership team World Servants
There was good cooperation among staff members but also with CCAP team. they were also consultative in their approach.

Local leaders / key persons
they were always on the site providing leadership and guidance to the community members. they also took a leading role in distribution of tasks.

Community
they came in large numbers everyday and worked side by side with the participants

Beneficiaries
they took part in the childrens work and a great time with the participants.

(Local) authorities
they made sure that their subjects were participating in the construction work as well as the interaction .

Facilitation of the team

Accommodation
two rooms were set aside for girls and one for boys. there was enough space for everyone.

Food
food was prepared by the kitchen staff with Chrodney as the lead cook. The food prepared was generally good because participants hailed it as nice food.

Transportation
in general transportation was fine apart from the incident when the lorry broke down on our way from the airport to the project site.

Safety
Two watchmen from the community were deployed everyday in the night. no safety issues were recorded.

Lessons learned
The only unexpected challenge was the breakdown of the lorry however the situation was handled through hire of another vehicle. In general we can conclude that when things are well planned ahead and when the community is well mobilised it becomes easy to implement the project. this also applies to the advance communication between world servants, staff and ccap.
