De partner vertelt... van 11 oktober 2019 door Mussa Nyirenda

Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

Context and summary

Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
The original plan was to construct two teachers houses and one latrine block for learners. The plan on toilet was changed to construction  of toilets for staff houses. the plan on teachers houses was executed as per plan.

Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.

generally the project was implemented well as all the structures were constructed and reached a roofing level which is the normal desired target on the project. The interaction with the community was equally good.

How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

Construction

Buildings worked on
two teachers houses and two staff toilets. construction has been done up to roofing level. plastering was also partly done. there was good community participation and also working side by side with participants was very nice to see.

Tasks to be done

tasks remaining to be done include plastering, flooring, pointing, drainage,  glass and door fixing.

Programs

Children program
The childrens work programme used to take place from 10.00 a.m to 11.00 am. The childrens work went on well despite low turn up since schools were on holiday. The participants went into the nearby villages singing songs such as " follow the leader" to get the learners to childrens work and it worked well.

Cultural and touristic outings
The cultural programmes went on well. the home visits were done and other activities such as traditional dances, women activities also took place and they went on well. The challenge was that the participants were shocked after the visits to some poor families and also the perception of other local family who felt the coming of the participants was to help them in their problems. The visit to the national park was also succesfull despite that the participants did not see alot of animals. the other challenge was the mode of payment to the national park as the team thought they were going to pay via smart card.

Life Skills program and Football for Water

The lifeskills programme took place and the participants interacted well the teenagers from the community. football for water programme did not take place at this school.

Cooperation and involvement

Leadership team World Servants
there was good consultation between the staff from world servants and staff from CCAP. This made working relationship easy as all issues were tackled there and then.

Local leaders / key persons
They were always available on construction site and took lead on the activities happening at the project site for example identification of families to be visited during home visits but also organising traditional dances.

Community
they came in large numbers to work together with the participants and also took part in the interactive activities such as singing, dancing, ferrying sand and bricks.

Beneficiaries
They took part in most activities during childrens work such as singing , playing, reading bible stories and drawings.

(Local) authorities
they made sure that they send their subjects to the school to work on the construction and take part in the activities at the school.

Facilitation of the team

Accommodation

Participants were accommodated in classrooms and the girls occupied 2 classrooms while boys occupied one classroom. there were no issues regarding accommodation

Food
Food was prepared by the kitchen staff with Jenipher as the lead cook. the participants enjoyed the meals and gave complements for the nice food prepared.

Transportation

we did not experience any transportation challenges during this project. All activities requiring transportation were well covered.

Safety

safety was well guaranteed throughout the project and no issues relating to safety were brought to our attention.

Lessons learned
This project was anticipated to be a passive/ dormant community however alot of effort was put on mobilising the community to take an active role hence succesful project.
