Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

Context and summary

Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
The original plan was to construct a school block and one teachers house and the project has been executed as planned. This project is a repetitive project, in addition to the project done in 2011 (MA211). At that time the team constructed also a school block with 2 classrooms and 1 office, and a teacher house and a Girls Changing Room.

Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.
The project was well implemented as all the stakeholders took part in the implementation of the project. There was good interaction between the participants and the locals which made the project to be implemented well. Community participation was also great.

How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

Construction

Buildings worked on
One school block was constructed and one teachers house. There was good cooperation between community members and participants and in general work progressed very well. The highest point was reached and roofing was also done.

Tasks to be done
The remaining tasks requiring the attention of the community were plastering, pointing, drainage, flooring, skirting, fixing doors and glasses.

Programs

Children program
The childrens work went on well and there was good attendance. The children enjoyed the songs, games and singing. The participants also enjoyed playing the with the kids.

Cultural and touristic outings
There were many activities that happened such as dancing and singing with locals, home visits, visiting a local market and all the activities went on well. The visit to Liwonde National Park was also very successful as this is the only group that saw alot of animals. The challenge however was transport as the distance from the project is very big. Jacob being a set up member was tasked to give his assessment of the trip and its possibilities.

Life Skills program and Football for Water
Life skills program happened according to the arranged plan and was handled by the participants in a good way. Football for water was also very exciting right from coaching up to the final event where the competition went on very well. The messages on sanitation and hygiene were repeatedly conveyed through the Master of Ceremony. The health officers from Ministry of Health were in attendance and made a speech on the importance of sanitation and hygiene.

Cooperation and involvement

Leadership team World Servants
There was very good cooperation among the staff members as well as with the ccap team. Jacob being an experienced leader also it helped the success of the project. There was also good consultation on issues arising.

Local leaders / key persons
They were always available on the project guiding people and helping in sharing responsibilities. They organised and arranged the community according to the need.

Community
They helped on the project by ferrying sand, water and also working side by side with the participants. They took an active role in making sure that all activities are properly accomplished.

Beneficiaries
The learners were actively involved through the childrens work programme. They learnt the songs and played games with the participants

(Local) authorities
They helped in sending their people to take part in the development work at the school. They were also available during functions to encourage their subjects.

Facilitation of the team

Accommodation
There was enough places for the participants as 4 classroms were set aside for the participants.

Food
Food was prepared by the kitchen staff with Chrodney as the lead cook. The food was prepared well and the participants enjoyed the meals.

Transportation
We did not experience any challenges with transport during this project

Safety
There were no security concerns recorded on this project as everything just went on well.

Lessons learned
This being a repetitive project the community was already aware of how to conduct themselves and this community was very easy to mobilise.
