Een impressie van La Valdeza

Project update van 30 maart 2022 door Gijs Luigjes

The teachers and parents are very enthousiastic and willing to work hard in expanding the school. They are looking forward to receive a World Servants team that will help them realise their dream.

The school started in 1971 for the local community in a more rural area, but at this moment the area of La Valdeza increased with more than 3.000 houses.
A lot of new houses have been built in the past years and the amount of people grew rapidly. People moved from Panama City and are able to live in relatively cheap houses with low mortgage. The construction companies who are selling the houses are advertising that there are schools in the area, but they don’t inform that the schools in the area are completely full.

Because of the growth of the population the school is completely full. They provide education for pre-kindergarden, kindergarden and 1st to 6th grade. There are 350 children enrolled in these classes, but they only have 4 classrooms. At least 50 children are recently rejected because the school is full. Officially the construction companies have a contract which oblige them to provide education. But the government ignores this fact and doesn’t check the actual situation.
Because of the lack of space the school works with three shifts a day for (pre-)kinder and 1st and 2nd grade. For 3th up to 6th grade they have a morning and afternoon shift. To be able to organize with 3 shifts they reduced the time for each lesson.

This community is very eager to find solutions to be able to give as many children as possible the opportunity to go to school. The teachers and parents are very enthousiastic and willing to work hard in expanding the school. They are looking forward to receive a World Servants team that will help them realise their dream.
