This year was our last Project with World Servants in Quetzaltenango. The school is at the final stage of construction and it was time for the construction teams to phase out of the building site now so that the construction workers can finish all the small details. After three years of work the school is finally complete with 8 classrooms, kitchen, directors office, and a computer lab.

There are bathrooms for boys and girls in the first and second floor of the school with 4 toilets and one shower in each one.

Our 3 workers are currently finishing the floor and plastering for the second floor, the roof of the third floor is designed to be an open area for raising chickens, and a small greenhouse to grow vegetables. These activities will provide necessary eggs, and vegetables for the school.  The pictures show more details about the construction and the current state of the school

The outside facade of the school is now being finished, the details in front are both esthetic and useful because this wall is the outside of both the first and second floor bathroom facilities. That is the reason of the small high windows on the walls. The photo shows the wall plastered which is the final stage before painting.

The inside patio is where most of the kids play and have their recess.  This is a multipurpose patio which is designed to be converted from Basketball to Soccer courts depending upon the need. This view allows you to see how the finished look of the first floor is, and the work in process to finish the second floor.   All the classrooms on the first floor are being used for our current students. The second-floor rooms are in the process of being finished.  The walls are being plastered and the floors are being installed.

The pictuires of the 1st floor classrooms shows how al the classrooms will be finished. The same floor and finishes will be installed in all the second-floor classrooms and the computer lab.  Most of them will serve 20 to 30 kids every day.  They will all be furnished the same way with the benches for the youngest children and chairs and tables for the oldest.

The second floor and the roof are the most recent update on the project. The walls need to be plastered, and the floor inside the classrooms and the bathrooms need to be installed for the school to be fully finished. In the photos you can see as well that the stairs also need plastering.  The floor surfaces will be finished with an anti-slip surface to provide safety for the children. The indoor salon will function as two separate classrooms, but will have a movable inner wall to open up for larger events and meetings. The roof will be finished  with an impermeable surface and will be used as an open patio for the chickens and vegetable garden.

Goals for coming months.
  • Finish the installations of the computer lab and have a fully functioning room with enough machines to teach our children the basic trades in computer science.
  • Complete the creation of the vegetable garden and the hens for the use of our own kitchen. Have a self-sustainable kitchen.
  • Paint the entire school
  • Finish the second floors bathroom facilities and fixtures.
