De partner vertelt... van 8 december 2022 door Mussa Nyirenda

Elk jaar vragen we onze partner hoe het project is gegaan en welke lessen de partner heeft geleerd.

CONTEXT AND SUMMARY
* Describe the original plan/idea for the project. Has the project been executed as planned?
The original plan was to construct a school block with two classrooms and an office in between. The project has been executed according to the original plan

* Give a (short) general description of the implementation of the project.
The project was implemented well because there was good working relationship between the participants and the locals. together they managed to fill the inside of the two rooms with enough sand in readiness for flooring. They also ferried sand and bricks to the site including drawing water for construction. By the time the group was leaving a lot of work had been done such as bricklaying and roofing. Part of plastering inside the classrooms had also been done.

*Tasks to be done
The tasks remaining now are pointing, drainage and painting.

* How do you look back on the following topics? How was it arranged, what went well, what could be done better?

CONSTRUCTION
* Buildings worked on
The construction works of the school block was done in a good way because both the participants and locals did bricklaying together up to roofing level. The participants and the locals also worked so had to fill the foundation which was very deep, plastering, skirting and flooring have been done at the moment.

* Tasks to be done
The tasks remaining now are pointing, drainage and painting.

PROGRAMS
* Children program
The childrens work started with communication challenges between the volunteer teachers and the childrens work participants. This was observed on the first day and MJ came in to bridge the gap. There after everything went on well and the childrens work programme became succesfull. Among some of the activities carried out were playing games, singing songs, dancing and bible stories.

* Cultural and touristic outings
A lot of cultural activities were done such as family visits, visit to flee markets, visit to a police station as well as clinic visits. The touristic outings to Kasungu national park also went on well despite not seeing a lot of animals.

* Life Skills program and/or Football for Water
Football for water trainings took place at Liziwazi as well as Chankhomi. One training was done at each school and so many learners took part at liziwazi alone about 60 learners were involved in the training. on the final day there was a game between Liziwazi and chankhomi school which was won by liziwazi school and they received a trophy. The Environmental Health officers from The ministry of health were in attendance and sensitised the community members on hygiene and sanitation but also on the need for children who dropped out of school due to covid to come back to school. the total number of people who attended the function can be estimated to be around 200 or more.

COOPERATION AND INVOLVEMENT
* Leadership team World Servants
Leadership was good and team remained a team throughout the project period. There was good cooperation between the CCAP staff and the leadership team from World Servants which made working together an easy task.

* Local leaders / key persons
Local leaders managed to mobilise their subjects to come in their large numbers to assist with various works at the construction site.

* Community
The community members were very active throughout the project. They kept on coming to work together with the participants. This helped in the accomplishment of the work in good time.

* Beneficiaries
The learners were actively involved in the activities that were taking place during the childrens work programme.

* (Local) authorities
The local authorities were working hand in hand with the local leaders in guiding the community members on the various tasks that were available each time.

FACILITATION OF THE TEAM
* Accommodation
Accommodation was arranged in the two classrooms and teachers houses which were renovated by World Servants. The girls were accommodated in the two classrooms and the boys in the two teachers houses.

* Food
Food was prepared from a makeshift kitchen and served in a makeshift dining room. The food served was okay for the participants as there were no complaints registered.

* Transportation
Two buses were arranged to pick participants from the airport and back, The CCAP Jeep was used to carry participants bags. The lorry was used to ferry sand to the construction site.

* Safety
No safety issues were registered during the construction period. During the football match one girl was hit with a ball by a fellow participant and developed a minor fracture in her arm. She was however taken to the hospital at Nkhamenya and got assisted accordingly.

LESSONS LEARNED
In general the project was organised well and we feel it cant be better than how it was organised more especially considering that the school was very needy with very poor infrastructure. The challenge encountered was when two participants tested positive for COVID at different moments. we created a separate isolation room for them and it worked out in the end.
